Counseling for Children, Teens, Adults and Families
ABOUT KAYLA DEFEO MS, LPCA
I believe that building a strong, trusting connection with my clients is the foundation for helping them achieve the growth they seek. Whether working with adults or children, I draw from my counseling training, background working in residential facilities, and my own life experiences to support clients in reducing anxiety symptoms.
Anxiety is a normal and healthy emotion, but sometimes we begin to view the world through a lens of danger. When this happens, anxiety can become overwhelming and frequent, accompanied by unpleasant symptoms. I enjoy teaching my clients how to retrain their brains to feel safe, reduce their anxiety, and create more peace in their lives.
I love supporting people of all ages, including children as young as five years old! I like to make sessions fun, creative and engaging by incorporating art or play. Some of the therapeutic approaches I use include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Pain Reprocessing Therapy. I blend these techniques to provide personalized support for each of my clients.
Besides treating anxiety, I also have experience working with individuals dealing with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), depression, trauma, addiction and children and adolescents with behavioral challenges.
In addition to anxiety, I work with people managing OCD, chronic pain, addiction and children with behavioral challenges.
When I’m not at the office, you can find me spending time with friends and family, cooking Italian food, getting lost in a good book, gardening, or hanging out with my cats, Bruno (the sweet one) and Theo (the rascally one).
